Book Club: Harvest by Stefani Bittner and Alethea Harampolis

image.jpegThis is a great book to learn how to take edible flowers, vegetables and herbs and make a variety of projects like bridal gifts, home goods and cooking. All you need is a few common garden plants, some of which may already be growing in your backyard. The Harvest offers tips for using petals and leaves, roots, seeds, and fruit: turn tumeric root into a natural dye and calamintha into lip balm.Talk about making a DIY lip balm. Throughout the book you can also learn helpful food safety tips about growing and using your own garden like soil may have lead in it if your home was built pre-1978. Most houses before 1978 have metal contamination in the soil. Not everything you can eat but almost everything around your garden and home you can use in someway or another. The photos in the books are amazing. This book is a keeper for any beginner garden or DIY chick.
