Book Club: The Roanoke Girls by Amy Engel

The Roanoke Girls

The Roanoke Girls is full of surprises through and through. The story follows fifteen year-old Lane Roanoke came to live with her grandparents and fireball cousin, Allegra, on their vast estate in rural Kansas after her mother kills herself. Lane knows little of her mother’s mysterious family, but she quickly embraced life as one of the rich and beautiful Roanoke girls. But when she discovered the dark truth at the heart of the family, she runs…fast and far away. Learning the family trouble past and the real reason why her mother kills herself is shocking. The Roanoke family is seriously messed up, I don’t even think the word dysfunctional begins to describe the family secret they’re all hiding. While the secret is revealed pretty early on you keeping flipping through the pages to learn more and more about the Roanoke girls. If you love a good mystery you will love this book. Reminds me a little bit of flowers in the attic.
